District Line still disrupted by signal failure and heat restrictions

Chiswick residents using the District Line are facing ongoing disruption this morning following a signal system failure that caused widespread suspensions yesterday, with residual delays now continuing into Tuesday due to heat-related speed restrictions.

At its worst, the line had no service between Whitechapel and multiple destinations including Richmond, Ealing Broadway, Wimbledon and Kensington (Olympia). By the early hours of Tuesday, services had partly resumed but severe delays remained between High Street Kensington and Richmond, and between Kensington (Olympia) and Upminster.

For Chiswick residents, the Richmond branch — which serves Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens and Richmond itself — is the most affected section. TfL is accepting tickets on London Buses, the Elizabeth line, DLR, c2c and South Western Railway as alternative routes.

The South Western Railway services from Waterloo through Chiswick (Chiswick station on the Windsor line) provide a useful alternative for those heading into central London. Bus routes along the A4 and Kew Road remain an option for shorter hops.
