Council urges Chiswick residents to look out for neighbours during World Cup

Hounslow Council is asking residents to keep an eye on those around them as the 2026 World Cup gets underway, following evidence that major football tournaments are associated with a rise in domestic abuse incidents across the country.

The council's appeal is aimed at neighbours, friends and family members who may notice warning signs, as well as anyone who finds themselves in an unsafe situation at home. Support services remain available throughout the tournament, and residents are encouraged not to wait before seeking help.

National research has consistently shown spikes in domestic abuse calls to police and support lines on match days, particularly when results are disappointing. Hounslow's message is that abuse is never an acceptable response to any outcome, and that bystanders play an important role in early intervention.
