Twenty Hounslow parks win Green Flag Awards — including sites near Chiswick

Hounslow Council has received 20 Green Flag Awards this year, recognising its parks, open spaces and cemeteries as among the best maintained in the country. The Green Flag Award scheme is the international benchmark for well-managed, welcoming parks, and 20 awards in a single year is a strong showing for any London borough.

For Chiswick residents, several of the borough's most-used green spaces sit within easy reach — Gunnersbury Park, which straddles the Ealing and Hounslow boundary, is among the flagship sites the borough has long championed. The awards cover a wide range of spaces, from larger parks to smaller open areas and burial grounds managed by the council.

Green Flag status is assessed annually against criteria including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and how well a space serves its community. Retaining a flag requires ongoing effort from parks teams and, in many cases, active volunteer friends groups.
